I read a lot of spy books and thrillers. But The Guys Who Spied for China is one crazy book. Very offbeat, and very different than most espionage thrillers that I read. This is a roman a clef about the writer’s own relationship with this crazy Good Shepherd type of old world Cold Warrior, and how he helps the old spook root out Chinese Espionage Networks operating out of California and other parts of the United States. This story is not located in Moscow, or Berlin or some foreign city. It all takes place here in Beverly Hills and California. The author describes with great style the different events that made headlines in the eighties and nineties, as spies were picked up left and right on espionage charges. The book can be nasty. It can be violent. But you will not want to put it down..
